GRE Fishing Report
In spite of a unique windstorm through the Canyon a couple of weeks ago, we’re still in full swing fly-fishing the Gunnison Gorge and have just come off another fantastic two-day trip. The fishing was excellent all the way down to Boulder Garden where there was still some off-colored water in the drainage due to sediment deposit and the movement of a few massive rocks. There’s about three feet of visibility from Smith Fork down, and as we got closer to Pleasure Park, we found the clarity worsened a bit.
Right now the best lures are the hopper droppers with small bead heads. We found streamers were also successful on the lower half of the river.
We’ve also done a few fishing trips from Pleasure Park to Austin and experienced off-colored clarity at three feet. Primarily streamer fishing has been working the best on this section of the river. It doesn’t look like the browns have started to gear up for spawn as of yet.
Looks like our monsoon season is over and things have settled down so it’s a great time to get on the river to enjoy Colorado’s terrific fall days. GRE has availability for the month of September for some great fishing. Our last trip into the Gorge will be Oct. 7th.
North Rim Hunt Club – Upland Bird Hunting Report
Opening day of dove season was a huge success. Twenty-five people showed up at the ranch in Delta and bagged over 600 birds, most them Collared Doves. Looks like we’ll start to cut corn silage on the seventh of September, so the bird season should stay strong through the month. Give us a call to get in on this fabulous hunting!
We’re off and running with the opening of our pheasant season in Hotchkiss, too! The wild populations of Chukars and Gamble Quail have been very good. With the wet summer here, the vegetation is the best we’ve ever seen it, so we expect great hunting this fall and winter with the amount of cover and tall grass. GRE still has the same properties to hunt as last year.
Our waterfowl leases are looking good for 2010. We have three new leases on the lower Gunnison in the Delta area, as well as that familiar terrific property between Hotchkiss and Paonia with four miles of private water. We’re excited about the season getting on its way and look forward to you coming down to visit us.

North Rim Trophy Hunt – Big Game Hunting Report
Archery season has been going for a couple of weeks now and a few nice bulls have been taken off the property. We’ve harvested twenty-one bulls with the largest being an SCI score of 440 and three quarters. Great size and plenty to go around, so come on out and get in on the action!
